Principle of Hydraulic Press A hydraulic press is a machine press using a hydraulic cylinder to generate a compressive force. The hydraulic press operates by forcing hydraulic fluid into a double-acting piston. The compressive force generated within the smaller hydraulic cylinder pushes the fluid into a larger cylinder, where greater force and pressure are applied. As the larger piston moves, it forces the fluid back into the smaller piston cylinder.
